Wood lockers and wood athletic lockers

LG2 supplies two wood locker lines. Club Lockers are red oak wardrobe lockers for country clubs, health spas and fitness centers. Recruiter Wood Sport Lockers are custom, furniture-grade wood athletic lockers for team rooms, in six wood species and five side styles.

Both lines ship fully assembled and carry a 1-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, and the same factory builds custom trophy cases, benches and Corian® tops, so the whole room can match.

Applications

Where wood lockers fit

Wood lockers are a finish-grade choice for dry, supervised rooms where the lockers are part of the interior design. These wood lines are built for country club, health club, fitness center and team sport locker rooms. We install wood lockers in Michigan country clubs, spas and team rooms, and in Indiana, and we'll tell you when another material is the better fit.

  • Country clubs and golf clubs

Club Lockers give members a true wardrobe locker: a 72" single-tier opening with a hat shelf, coat rod and hooks, or double and triple tiers for higher counts. Crown molding and a raised base make a bank read like built-in millwork.

  • Health spas and fitness centers

Red oak, or an upgraded species like cherry or walnut, suits spa and premium fitness dressing rooms. Plan the lockers for the dressing area, away from showers, steam rooms and other wet zones.

  • Private and executive locker rooms

In a corporate fitness room or members-only locker room, 12" or 15" wide Club Lockers in 1-wide or 3-wide groups fit a smaller footprint while keeping the furniture-grade look.

  • Varsity and college team rooms

Recruiter wood athletic lockers are built for team rooms and recruiting visits: a lockable upper security box, an open hanging area, a footlocker seat, and options like LED lighting, power outlets, helmet racks and a full-color team logo.

  • Where we recommend something else

Showers, pool decks and other wet areas call for solid HDPE plastic or phenolic lockers. Fire and EMS turnout gear needs open, ventilated gear lockers, so for fire stations we recommend steel turnout gear lockers rather than wood.

Compare

Wood vs. phenolic and plastic lockers

Wood is chosen for its look and feel; phenolic and HDPE plastic are chosen for water. If you want the look of wood in a wet room, solid phenolic with a woodgrain finish is the usual answer. For a wood look in a dry dressing room or office, woodgrain plastic laminate (PLAM) lockers are another option.

Planning & installation

How a wood locker project works

Planning wood lockers in Michigan or Indiana starts with the room, not the catalog. Here's how we take a project from first measurements to a finished locker room.

  1. Step 1

Measure the room and count users

We measure the space, check floor and wall conditions, and work out how many openings you need. With Club Lockers, tiering is how you trade hanging space for count.

  2. Step 2

    Plan accessible lockers

The 2010 ADA Standards require at least 5 percent of each type of locker, and no fewer than one, to be accessible, with clear floor space in front and hooks, shelves and locks within a 15" to 48" reach range. The manufacturer doesn't publish a dedicated ADA wood locker, so we plan accessible positions with your design team during submittals.

  3. Step 3

Choose the line, species and options

Pick Club or Recruiter, red oak or an upcharge species, a side profile, the lock type, and options such as LED lighting, power outlets or a logo print.

  4. Step 4

    Submittals and lead time

We prepare submittals for approval before the order is released. Quick-Ship Recruiter lockers come from stock. The manufacturer says custom Recruiter designs can be ready to install in as little as 8 weeks; optional species and side profiles add time, so we confirm the schedule when you order.

  5. Step 5

    Site prep

Recruiter lockers sit on a 2×4 sub-base built by others, with the toe-kick material included. Club Lockers sit on a matching 4" raised base, with finished end panels at every exposed end. We coordinate who builds what with your contractor.

  6. Step 6

    Delivery and installation

Both lines ship fully assembled. Our crew sets the units following the manufacturer's installation instructions, adds end panels, fillers and crown molding, then adjusts doors and locks before the walkthrough.

Care & maintenance

Caring for wood lockers

The manufacturer doesn't publish a separate care guide for these wood lockers, so this is our practical advice for keeping a lacquered or varnished wood finish looking new.

  • Keep wood lockers in dry, conditioned rooms, out of showers and away from pool spray.
  • Wipe up spills and don't leave wet towels on the finish; store damp gear in the ventilated footlocker.
  • Clean with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Skip harsh solvents and scouring pads.
  • Check hinges, latches and locks from time to time and adjust doors as needed.
  • Call us before refinishing or repairing a damaged door so we can help source matching parts from the factory.
